The investigator of the Investigative Committee – Nina Nesterova known for her intransigence joins the high-profile case of a fire in a nightclub which had resulted in the loss of lives. It was she who made an unexpected offer to the provincial investigator Nikita Komarov to join the investigation. He and his fiancée Lera, a newspaper photographer, moved to the capital. It transpires that a well-known politician Boris Bobkov was involved in the case of the burnt disco and somebody kidnapped the investigator's fiancée. One can hardly view these facts as a coincidence.
